The Healthy Image Campaign, organised by Commercial Broadcasting, brings important messages to young people in the local community.

A sum of $230,000 was raised for the environmental protection group Green Power through the "Health Image Campaign".

The two-month-long campaign reached its climax at the Hong Kong Coliseum last Friday. Excitement mounted among the audience, most of whom had cast their votes in the campaign, as the names of the 10 healthiest celebrities were announced.

The awards went to Andy Tau, Maggie Cheung, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, Sandy Lam, Sally Yeh, Chow Yun-fatt, Leslie Cheung, Jackie Chan and Alan Tarn. Aaron Kwok Fu-shing, Alex To and Grasshopper were honoured as "Newcomers with a Healthy Image".

The appearance of singer-actor Leslie Cheung was a surprise treat for the audience. "I think the Healthy Image Award is quite different from others I had received, and I am very pleased that I won," the former pop idol said.

Energetic Sally Yeh was overwhelmed with joy. "I am so happy that I won the award because I have always been healthy.  If I did not win, I would probably protest."

Ms Winnie Yu, the director and general manager of Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting, said there were important messages behind the campaign.

"The award was partly aimed at keeping up with the social trend in environmental protection, but we also wanted to encourage artistes to pay more attention to their style and image," Ms Yu said.

She added that the morale of today's youngsters was very low with many turning suicidal. "We wanted to give them a more optimistic and healthy outlook on life."

Meanwhile, pop singer Sandy Lam gave her views: "Optimism, hard work and determination are the main criteria for my career development."
